What Are the Qualifications to Be an Elementary School Nurse?

Most big school districts want not only an RN, but also one with a bachelor's.

All of the Nurses at my son's schools (past and present) are RN's and some are Practiners who did not want to retire, but needed a change of pace.

I think you need to be an RN to be THE Nurse, but a large enough school may have more than one and a lesser degree may get you a part time position.

our school district has LPN (or the last I checked, they did).

but I have family in St Louis & 2 of them are school nurses. Both of their districts require RN.

In Massachusetts, I think you need to be a BSN, working on your Master's Degree in nursing.

Call your school district. They are the only ones that could answer this question. I am pretty sure you need to be an R.N.

Depends on the state maybe but in NJ you have to be an RN and then go on for additional training and a license in school nursing. You also have to be open to traveling for your job. Nurses usually stay in the job for a long time. If you are in school for the school nurse then sometimes you can get per diem work as a substitute nurse.

I'm not positive about Plano but I think it's RN.

I know the nurse at my kids schools are RN's and the elementary nurse has worked in the pediatric hospitals. I believe for our district you have to be an RN.

Our school nurse has a BSN.
