What to Do with Toddler While Showering?

I figured it out! I put her in the bathtub - empty of course! We have a seperate glass shower stall so I can watch her, it's a very large "soaking tub". I put her in there with a basket of toys and she has so much fun she doesn't even realize that she is not able to get out.

She gets up before 6 so the thought of getting up and showering before she wakes up is out of the question!

She was playing in my child-proofed bathroom until she figured out how to open the door and let herself out.

I am very thankful for the extra large tub.

I thought I would pass this info along and maybe someone else would find it helpful.

What can I do next?

I always put my children in the highchair and strapped them in. With a few toys and a small snack and the highchair right next to the shower they were happy.

Just an thought (and sad story).... prior to staying at home with my daughter I worked in a pediatric unit of a children's hospital. We had a toddler patient who came in due to chocking on the cap which goes over the bottom bolt on the toliet. This child ended up with severe brain damage because of the extended time with out oxygen. The cap was just the right size and was very difficult to remove. I really felt for the mother because she thought the bathroom was baby proof and she battled the issue of what to do with her child while in the shower. This is an example of how our curious toddlers can out smart parents. I also find that infants and toddler are developing so fast what they can't do one day they can do the next. So they never can really be trusted to roam free. The bathroom really is a safety risk for toddlers between all the products, toliet water, etc... Please check your covers and make sure they are on really tight. I came home that night after work and checked ours and sure enough they can right off. So, needless to say my husband added another project to his "to do" list. I hate to share this sad story but I feel like we need to learn from these situations and say a little pray for this mama. She is now a single mother of a child with severe development delays who needs 24 hour a day care.

You're lucky you can have her in site. I take the worlds fastest shower on these days when it's just her here with me!!! But my DD(19 months, Aug. 28th!)is the youngest of four; so my house is super child proofed! So I just let her run around until I am out of the shower then let her into the bathroom while I get ready. She loves Barney, so if I put him on the TV it tends to occupy her until I am done too! Mostly she will just lay/sit outside the door and wait for the water to turn off. I can hear her sing and what not, VERY cute!

My bathroom was baby proofed, so when my little one was still little she just stayed in the bathroom with me. I gave her some toys and we "talked" while I showered. I preferred that as then I could peek out of the shower often to check on her.

What a great idea! I'm sure you have some sort of soft bumpers around the tub in case she slipped and hit her head. Where do you get them from or what do you use?

I now put my 3 and 2 yr old in the shower with me. Saves time and we are all clean. My 6 mo old is still confined to his boucer chair, not for long though.

I had my son in a pack and play while I showered until he got old enough to realize he didn't want to be confined anymore. Great idea with the extra tub!

I do a similar thing. I put a little bowl with a bit of water in it now to keep my toddler happily playing. He was fine with toys for a while, but now that he's 2 he seemed to need a little more. Just a little bit of water is all it took, with the other toys of course.

I have a four year old and an 18 month old, both girls. When they were not able to stay in their cribs anymore which is right now for the younger one- I simply took them in the shower with me. I give them some toys and a cup of water and they sit toward the back of the shower. They are in sight and safe. Especially since my youngest climbs anything and everything. Of course the older one can now be trusted to wait for mommy to be done and watch TV. But sometimes she is jealous and so I shower with both. It is really a tough situation. Mine wakes up pretty early too. So I hardly ever get a shower before she wakes up. Hope this helps.
