Hello ladies!
I have two boys, 5 1/2 and almost 4, so I've done this before, but it's been so long that I just don't remember what to do... my daughter is just about 11 months old and I'm having trouble figuring out what to feed her and how much to feed her as far as "big people food" is concerned. We still do three 6oz. bottles a day (one at about 11am, one after nap at about 5pm, and one at bedtime which is about 8:30pm) along with 3 meals a day which mostly consist of Gerber baby food. What do/did you feed your almost 1 year old in terms of "big people food"? I think my main concern is that she's getting all the nutrients she needs. For breakfast the past two days I've given her dry Cheerios and a small container of yogurt. What do/did you feed your little ones for breakfast? Also, how did you ween them off of bottles? She drinks water out of a sippy cup all by herself with each meal just fine. Should I wait until she's a year and drinking cow's milk to transfer from bottles to just sippy cups? Because formula spoils after an hour. I was thinking that I should start skipping the two day bottles and just putting the formula in her sippy cup to go with her meals and keep only the bedtime bottle until she's 1... looking forward to your responses! Thank you for your time!

K. :)

i would transfer her to cows milk. Think what do you eat and feed it to her. Give her fruit cut up small pieces for her to take and put in her mouth cantalope thats real rip is soft and chewable do watermelon grapes if cut in quarters, oranges, bananas, apple, do veggie the same cukes carots can be cut you may want to steam them to soften them for her. If you have dinner and its spagettii give her dinner with spagetti. You can do pbj's i know the dr says to wait i never waited and non of my kids have peanut allergies you break it into pieces for her though you have to pull it from the sandwhich you could give her pieces of ham or cereal granolla in small pieces yougart, cheese , waffles poancakes i can keep going give her whole cows milk though.

my daughter just turned 9 months today, for the past month we've been working on "big people food" she now eats yogurt in the morning, lunch is normally a bottle, and for dinner she eats spaghetti, cooked veggies, mashed potatoes, fruit slices, or some grits. so far we havent had any problems with "big people food" shes getting good at it, now if only we could get this sippy cup down. lol.

Slices of cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, grapes (cut up in at least quarters), bananas, cheerios, peas, clementines, those "puffs" in the baby food aisle, little bites of bread with jam, oatmeal, cream of wheat. Really much of what you eat as long as it's small and soft (mash it if you have to).

We transitioned to sippy cups before we transitioned to cow's milk -- just replaced a bottle a week with a sippy cup. Your doctor will be able to tell you how much formula your daughter should be consuming in a day so you can keep track.

DD is 8.5 months and she eats what we eat. She loves salmon, broccoli, feta cheese, any other shredded cheese, chicken, turkey, potatoes, carrots, waffles, pancakes, plums, blueberries, grapes, rice, cottage cheese, cantaloupe, etc, etc. we just cut or hand shred it into small pieces and she self feeds. really does not like to be spoon fed

I focused on fruits and vegetables, grains and legumes. At breakfast I would feed her as much fruit and grains as she was interested in. If she could eat what we were eating, then she had that, otherwise I'd feed her hot cereal, cheerios, and cut up fruit. At lunch I'd give her grains, vegetables and legumes, or whatever from our meal she could eat. The easiest way was frozen peas and carrots and corn. Supper was the same thing. Sometimes I'd do pieces of tofu instead of peas, or I'd cook some beans or lentils for her to have. She's almost one, but for the last few months she's not wanted me to feed her, so we do as much finger food as possible.

Well hello there .... I also have a little girl, she just turned 13 months and i also still give her baby food..... At 11 monthi gave her some solids, but was also very careful. You can give her mashed potatoes, very small peices of chicken and even rice cooked very well (soft).. Basically you can give her whatever you cook for the family as long as its cooked soft enough for her to eat.. Nothing with nuts or anything cooked with too much seasoning.. Far as the sippy cup and bottle I think your doing a great job with that. My daughter still drinks from a bottle only because i have not found a good sippy cup that does not leak or drip. Most pediatricians will tell you to take the bottle at 6 months, but not a good idea! I think age 1 is the perfect age to drop the bottle completly. Yes we all forget about the baby stages as our other children get older, lol.. Good luck!!!

Im in the same boat! My 10 month old just decided that he doesn't want to eat baby food anymore. He just scrapes it off of his tongue. lol. I have been ( along with several bottles a day) giving him.. "big boy" versions of the baby food. Instead of the baby food peas i will give him regular peas! He seems to like feeding himself.. Im hoping that will ease him into eating more and more " grown up" foods. Good luck!

*edit!
I just recently picked up some of those graduate "pick up pasta" deals.. and my son loves them! Of course i had to cut the pasta up a little smaller so he wouldn't choke.. but it was a quick fix that he could feed himself easily. ALSO walmart has little "mini bananas" that are SO CUTE! haha. My son could probably eat a whole one for a snack! both are easy to prepare and eat!

K.,

For a first time mom you are doing great! Current research says that kids that stay on bottles longer that one year have a higher perecentage of being over weight children so, I had my children off the bottle at 1. If you don't want to go the processed route there are plenty of options out there. My younger daughte loved yogurt so, I did what you did dry cereal and yogurt. My kids also love a dry waffle in hand and no syrup even to this day (youngest is three and older is almost 9), and toast with Jam. My kids don't drink much juice (the younger one likes o.j). In fact, my older is allergic and it cause bladder infections. Plus, it is loaded with sugar and citric acid (which is what I think she is allergic to...never have figured it out). Pancakes are good because the are soft..and again don't feel you have to put anything on it. My kids are pretty good about sugar...like an occasional peanut butter cup:) otherwise, they don't eat much of it.

It is a good idea to put the formula in the sippy if she does it at this point becuse if she can already developmentally hold the cup and drink from it she is ready! If she can handle some milk go head and give her some in the morning or evening. Use whole milk (viatmin d). This has lots of vitamins. My daughter at age three still drinks it because it is so good for their developmental growth. My kids each what we eat in smaller amounts (a meat, veggie, bread, fruit)

Have fun!

my children never had bottles, they went straight from the breat to sippy cups and even drinking out of cups without lids when they were about 9 months old. (we held the cups for them)

as for feeding, they can do lots of 'adult' table food. here is a good link:

This website has TONS of information on what to feed when. I used it as a guide for when my daughter was starting foods as to when to start what foods and to make sure she was getting the right amount of nutrients.

This page has a chart of a lot of different foods and when you should introduce them. http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/solids2.htm

As far as the whole milk goes, I waited until my daughter was 11 1/2 months before I started that.
