Kids Play Places

My cousin and I are toying with the idea of opening a center where mom's bring their kids just to play. In the area where we live, there is nothing like this, other than the McDonalds play area. There isn't even a play area in our mall. Our plan would be for it to be a place where mom and child would stay - no drop-offs, not a daycare. We would have a cozy sitting area for mom's with coffee and snacks, and wifi, maybe a tv. The kids area would have a variety of different activities - an art center, a train table, an area to play "house...

Panicing About Christmas Time Already.

I'm trying to think of presents for my 3 year old son. I'm glad he's not at an age of Wei's or Guitar Hero's just yet. My husband has been unemployed for about 6 months now and money is really tight. What kind of make at home presents do people do at low cost or no cost? I don't know how to sew. I am checkng on freecycle for legos, lincoln blocks, and puppets. Any other ideas? And how does one get on toys for tots?

Food Ideas for My 11 Month Old

I am not much of a cook and since becoming a new mom, I am slowly learning. Unfortunately I think I've repeated a lot of food to my son and I think he's become bored with him. I really think especially with breakfast. I used to do pancakes and cereal but I don't think he's interested that much in it. So I was hoping people would share their ideas for breakfast, lunch and even dinner ideas with me. Even if there's a book you think I should check out, I'd love to hear it. I am really open to just about anything just so that I can expand...

Worried My 13 Month Old Has Autism

First and foremost, I'm currently awaiting return calls both from my pediatricians office and a nearby Autism center to call me back to set up appointments. In the meantime, I'm driving myself crazy with worry thinking that my son is showing signs. Here's a little bit about him: He's always been shy with adults. He will hide his face from them 95% of the time when they approach him. He has done this practically since birth. With kids, though, he follows them and tries to play. I've done my best to keep him out of daycare, but that...

Calling All Survivors!

I have a very funny beautiful two year old daughter. Life has been a roller coaster for her lately. See, my husband has stage four colon cancer. So as you can imagine, a lot of our time and life is spent going to the hospital and or chemo treatments. My worst fear is that my babies childhood will be lost in all of the running around. I try to take her to special places and spend a lot of mommy and me time but what if it's not enough. She already senses that Daddy is not the same and she is acting out. I try so hard to keep her life regular...

How to Stop Sucking Fingers?

I have a 2 1/2 year old little boy that sucks his middle two fingers. It's never been too much of a problem until this winter. He is constantly sick with a stomach bug, fever, runny nose, cough, or cold. I contribute it to him putting his fingers in his mouth wherever we are before I get a chance to wash them or put antibacterial lotion on them. I have a newborn baby at home, so I'm a little concerned at what he could possibly catch from his brother as well. (RSV)

What Could Cause My 22-Month-old to Wake Throughout the Night?

I know, I know... "teething" will be No. 1 answer, and you may be right. but my son is a very good sleeper. Even when he does wake and cries, it's usually just for a minute and he'll get himself to sleep. but i wonder if there are other ideas out there. he's got all his teeth but his molars, so perhaps they are coming in, but Tylenol doesn't stop him from waking. Is it just that he's approaching 2 and this "just happens," or should I check for other things?

Halloween Candy or Not?

As you may have seen in some of my earlier questions, I have a 5yo who has Lyme Disease. She is on a dairy-free, gluten-free and sugar-free diet for now, since the doctor says it might help her recover faster if she stays away from those foods. But since Halloween is coming, she is going to be getting lots of candy. I asked the doctor if it is ok to eat it, since it will have sugar in it, and he basicly just said it is up to me and my husband. He says it would be best if she does not have any candy at all, but she LOVES halloween and trick...

How to Help a Child Get over a Fear of Going Potty

My youngest daughter is 2 1/2. In many ways she is very ready for potty training. She can hold it for hours and hours. She tells me when she needs to go pee or poo. But, she acts deathly afraid of sitting on the potty. We have tried the potty seat on the regular sized potty and a smaller potty chair. She went potty (pee) one time on the small potty chair, and ever since then she has had the fear. She has some other sensory issues, so I am pretty sure that is what the problem is. But, how do we help her get over the fear?

Putting Eye Drops in a 2 Year Olds Eyes

I have a question, my son is about to be 2 years old. I took him to the doctor today and they told me he has pink eye. They gave him a perscription for eye drops. Now, it is one thing to give a 2 year old medicine, but eye drops? I have tried everything I can think of to get the eye drops in his eye but nothing that I have tried works. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the drops in his eyes? I have tried to put then in the corner of his eye by the bridge of his nose, but he just rubs the drop away. Does anyone have any...

Where to Find Puppets

I am looking for a store in the Sterling Heights/Rochester area that might sell puppets that I can use to help teach my 4 year old Sunday school class. I can't find any puppets anywhere. I have tried Lakeshore Learning (they had some but were for kids to hold -- too small for my hands), Toys R Us and the Family Christian bookstore. I was hoping to not have to buy one online. Anyone have any ideas?
