Should a 6 Year Old Get Ready for School Without Reminders...

I have a 6 year old boy.. and a 7 year old girl. I work part time and have a nanny come to my house to watch the kids get them breakfast and drive them to school. Today nanny called me. She said she thought the kids were big enough to get themselves ready for school without constant reminders. She said she had a talk with them today and told them that since they were big now.. she should not have to tell them to get dressed to put their pjs away and to brush teeth and hair... etc... they should just know the routine and do it.. ...

Baby Monitor Advice

We are going to need a baby monitor in two rooms when our second child is born. We are just wondering how to make this work. Should we buy another set like what we have and the one monitor would pick up sound from both rooms?? Or get a different brand and have two systems set up.....but then will one monitor make the other monitor buzz more? Any suggestions?

Midnight Bedtime for a 6 Year Old?

OK so I am not going to put my side of this debate on here so I can use this info for " someone" but I'd like to take a poll of what your thoughts are on a first grader going to bed at midnight or after on Saturday nights (weekly not for special occassions) 1. do you do this? 2. what are your thoughts? 3. reasons for 1 and 2? 4. what is/was your 6 year old's weekend bedtime?

Transitioning from Crib to Toddler bed...what Age?!

we have a 17 month old who will be almost 24 months when our 2nd baby arrives in september...we will be moving our toddler to another bedroom so the nursery can be used with our infant. my question is: should my toddler be able to handle a toddler bed or should we use the same crib (or purchase another one that can be converted into a toddler bed?). if anyone has similar aged children, i would love to know what you did & how it worked out! my toddler is very independent already, so i think she would love the idea of a 'big girl bed'...

Seeking Advice for Night Terrors!!!

My 6 year old girl has night terrors. She has had them since she was 3 years old. They were horrible at first. Now they are about once a week. She wakes up screaming, hitting, kicking, shaking, etc.. She never remembers the event and it usually happends when her there is a change in her sleeping schedule. Even though they are a lot better and less severe I still worry and wonder what causes them. I have looked it up and taken her to a doctor. At one point she was waking me up every night. The doctor suggested it could be seziures. He wanted...

Blankie and Thumb Sucking

I am seven months pregnant and my youngest is just about to turn three. She has a special blankie that she sleeps with and sucks her thumb with. Our pediatrician said that around three is when we should deal with the issue. I think we waited too long. Also, my concern is that if I try to take it away now and try to discourage the thumb sucking with the baby coming that the events are too close together. I know she is going to have other issues when the baby comes. Any advice about how to get rid of the blankie/thumb and opinions on...

My Daughter Refuses to Go to Bed...

I have a 3 yr. old daughter who is the light of my life. I put my daughter to bed between 8-8:30 every night and she refuses to go to bed. She will continue to call me, get out of bed, cry hysterically, etc. At this time of night I have so much homework to do. After telling her continuously that it's time for bed,I try to ignore her hoping she will eventually go to sleep. Sometimes this works, but other times she doesn't go to sleep until 12 am. I don't know what to do. I tell her that she will not be able to watch tv the next day or...

Newborn Sleeping / SIDS / Shots

My son is 4 weeks old and in order for him to sleep more than a hour he has to feel me next to him. I place him in the boppy next to me in bed if Im real tired or I will cradle him in my arms. My concerns of doing so is SIDS - either in bed with me or even in his own bed. Everytime he sleeps I just stare at him to make sure he is ok. At the hospital I received so many pampletes on SIDS that for the first two weeks after his birth I slept for about 30 minutes at a time. I purchased a pad / moniter that is placed under his bed and it will...

Help-my 8 Year Old Is Very Picky About Her Food.

I have an 8 year old that is very picky about food. She either wants something different from what i've made and if not, she won't eat. I can't get her to eat veggies or healthy food. It all started one day that we were at my in laws house, and she almost vomited, ever since then, she is always saying that if she tries something new she's going to throw up. I've tried telling her to try something first, before saying she doesn't like it, I've tried the mother and daughter cook day, where we make somthing together, i've tried to hide the...

Could It Be Night Terrors

A little back ground... My one and a half year old daughter has what I thought to be night terrors.. It started at about two and a half to 3 months old, right around the time she started sleeping through the night which would have been great had her 15 month old brother not had them too.. He, however, would belt out this shriek of a cry and cry for anywhere from 5-15 minutes and then silence.. But the doctor told me they were night terrors and would go away.. they did.... Oct 2007.. anyway... my daughter is completely different.. She just...
