Bedtime Shenanagans & Noise

BACKGROUND: My daughter is 26 months old and sleeps in her crib. She is very happy in her crib and I do not intend on moving her to a bed until she shows signs of wanting to climb out or get a big girl bed. Her room is directly next to my son's room, who is 11 months old. Unfortunately, the walls are thin and sound carries easily. We have white noise playing at a moderate (not soft!) level to try to mask house noises (so the baby's crying doesn't wake her and vice-versa.) Moving rooms is not an option. She is really good about...

Taking Baby to the Beach!

We are taking our 10 mos old to Sanibel Island next month for not only his first beach trip, but his first trip of any kind. We will be flying and I wonder if anyone has any good suggestions for baby in flight and for the beach! We've packed ourselves for the beach many times, but never baby! I know there will be a million things we didn't think of! Also, because we are flying, it will be hard to take much big stuff...any suggestions or knowledge of places that may rent baby items short term?

Mom Seeking Help Transitioning from Co-sleeping

I am a single mom who has co-slept with her baby since he was born. He is now 16 months old and wakes 5-6 times a night to nurse. I would like to transition him in hopes that we will both sleep better in a different environment. I just dont know how? Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Family Bed Transition to Own Bed in Own Room

Hello, I am writing to get some advice on how to transition my 17mth old from our bed to her own without causing too much stress on her. The reason for the switch is because I just recently had surgery and she moves and kicks in her sleep and it just isn't working for me right now to have her in our bed. This also comes at a bad time because we just moved so she is getting used to the new house and the first week we lived her I ended up in the hospital for 4 days. She stayed with her grandma. So basically there has been a lot of changes...

Seeking Advice for Potty-trained 2.5 Yr Old at Naptime

I am seeking advice on how to curb my 2.5 yr old's idea of "funny" each Saturday at naptime. She throws out all her bedding and stuffed animals, then strips down (even her naptime diaper) and poos all over her sheets. She then triumphantly calls to me to see. I've tried to tell her this is yucky and germy - I've taken away TV and other tangible items, but she just doesn't get it. She is also not sleeping at all in the afternoon, but only on Saturdays and Sundays, when she is home. Help, please!

My 4 Year Old Little Girl Having Nightmares and WILL Not Sleep in Her Own Bed...

Like I said I have a 4 year old little girl and she says she has nightmares at least 3 to 4 times a week and we have tried all kinds of things like having water in a spray bottle and squirting it ALL around her room and telling her that is the monster and nightmare spray to make it go away.. It didn't help.. We give her a night light, she still cries waking up.. As well, staying with her until she falls asleep, that doesn't work she will wake up screaming if she is alone.. She doesn't even like to stay inside our house if we are outside.....

Miss No Naps

Hello, My almost three year old has decided she doesn't want to take naps anymore. Every afternoon I read her a story, tuck her into her bed with her music on, and then the battle begins. We spend the next hour or so with her coming out of her room saying she is not tired or that she doesn't want to take a nap and then me dragging her back to her room and tucking her in again, and again, and again... By the time she actually falls asleep, if she falls asleep, it’s pretty late in the day to be sleeping and then I have a hard time...

Stay at Home Schedule

I am looking to create a daily schedule for our 4 year old. Some thing from 8AM wake up time to 8 or 8:30 PM sleep time. Some basic activities, structured play, he is a type A personality child and we are trying to get him into a daily routine to have more peace in the house. Plus I DO NOT LIKE the amount of tv he gets in a day. He has an addiction to the tv we can't even turn it on for us (the adults) because he gets glued to it. It is extremely difficult to get him to sit still at any time for anything, even meals. I breastfeed...

Loss of Sleep

I have a 4 year old daughter that had her tonsils and adnoids taken out a week and half ago. This past weeks she has been very spoiled. She will not stop crying and screaming. I come home from work and she throws a constant fit all night. Im frustrated and I don't know what to do. And I'm very tired from getting up with her all hours of the night. She screams so loud that it wakes up her brother and upsets him as well. I'm afraid her throat will not completely heal with all the screaming. She has never been like this before and I...

Problems Trimming 2 Year Old's Nails

Today my toddler showed me her "terrible" 2 phase when I tried to trim her toe nails and finger nails. She normally resists a little and then will let me do it if I count her fingers as I trim the nails. This time it was a different story. She had a full out tantrum, screaming and kicking and grabbing my arm. I tried a time out to calm her down, but then when I said it was time to trim the nails she would start the "no no no" and crying. I don't know if I should stick to the time out until she is calm even if takes a long time or if I...

3 Year Old-being Quiet and Calm Expectations

So there are kids who are 2, 3 ,4 years old who can sit in a grocery cart calmly and quietly or one's who can sit in church with a book or little toy quietly. Then there are kids who can't! Is it personality or is it not proper parenting? I envy those parents who have young kids and can bring them to events that require them to be patient and still. My 3 1/2 year old cannot! Is it that I am not teaching/parenting him at home or in public to sit calm and quiet? Or is it personality that I can't change? I am not talking about mis...

Toddler (2.5 Years Old) Having Night Terrors...

I'm writing on behalf of my sister, who lives in Alaska and is still on dial-up internet (no broadband access way out there) and asked me to post for her. She is having a terrible time with her daughter of 2.5 years. She has been waking up every night with terrible nightmares/terrors, that she just cannot seem to shake. Last night, for example, she awoke at 2 AM and did not get back down until 4:30 AM. She is awakened by terrible dreams, is talking and screaming in her sleep, she is unconsolable, and is extremely distraught and upset...
