Hi everyone! We experienced a slab leak last night, and it recently resulted in complete flooding of our guest room. The pad and carpet were soaked about 95%. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good, reliable, cost-friendly company who can come and possibly save the carpet, or at least let us know if it's healthy to even do that. We already pulled up as much of the pad as we could and trashed that. We live close to the Highland Village/Lantana area. Thank you so much!

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for the advice on carpet cleaning after a slap leak! We used Neal Stout from Turbo-Tech ###-###-####; www.TheTurboTec.com). He was awesome! He provided exceptional and personalized service. He even called the next day to be certain that the smell was out of the carpet. He also made another trip out to the house, because I could still smell some "wet carpet" odor. He bought another product, came and applied it,left some with me, and didn't charge me anything extra. His prices are incredibly reasonable, and far cheaper than the big company's. You can't find better service and prices. Our carpet looks and smells amazing!

You might try calling your insurance company for a recommendation. Water damage from a slab leak could be covered and the insurance co. would pay for it.

Not only do I professionally clean tile & grout, but I also steam clean carpet. My system can extract any remaining water out of the carpet and the carpet needs to be treated for mold/mildew to thoroughly clean it and deoderize it. I am scheduled out today (Saturday) but I can come out this Sunday to resolve this problem for you if you'd like. I am offering a 10% discount to mamasource members. My number is ###-###-#### (N. Stout) and website is www.TheTurboTec.com. I can give you a price that is fair for us both and I don't charge nearly as much as the big franchises do!

Dear K.,

I've used both Blackmon-Mooring and Dal Worth with success. Blackmon-Mooring might be a bit better at wet carpet, but Dal Worth has a great Monday special (if you can wait that long).

I used to work for a Master Plumber, anytime he got a slab leak, homeowner's insurance always paid for new carpet or salvaging the carpet. I don't remember the insurance companies policy on this. Has the slab leak already been repaired? If so I would have thought the Plumber might be of more help, telling you about your carpet & insurance. My husband does home repairs for a living but doesn't do major plumbing or deal with insurance companies. However, he does know about the carpet. He said since you have already got the padding up (That was the most important, quickest step you needed to do, he says) Now getting the carpet itself dry as soon as possible will prevent mildew or mold and your carpet should be OK. However, getting a few of those big fans is probably neccessary to getting it dried fast enough. The competition is tough out there between the plumbers & the Carpet Cleaning Companies so be careful not to be upsold.

Sorry about the slab leak & I just noticed that you've been in the new home a month ago! Was it just built or do you mean it's new because it's new to you? Either way, I'm thinking you definately should be under a warranty and maybe not have to use insurance.
Best of Luck and once again sorry about the stress that goes with this.

Blackman and Mooring-you have to be careful of mold and Legionaires disease. This can be serious and life threatening.

My husband and I own a plumbing company and deal with floods and leaks all the time. I recommend 2 companies very highly. One is Dalworth - they always do a great job. I personally use Joe Nystrom ###-###-####.
I also recommend A Job Well Done for the water damage clean up. The owner is Marvin Littlepage. You can reach him at ###-###-####. They can probably bill your insurance company directly. Feel free to call or email me directly if you need any additional references for water cleanup/plumbing/handyman or carpet. ____@____.com ###-###-####
