How to Find Childcare When I Work Part Time Various Hours/days??

I am in a bit of a dilemma. I got a part time job but it is not a set schedule. I have a two year old and I am not sure how to go about getting childcare for her. It is just during the weekdays (morning/afternoon hours) that I will need random days for childcare. I am not sure how daycares work. I have a feeling that they want a set schedule for what day my daughter will be coming in (am I correct?). Has anyone else been in this situation or have a recommendation for me? I have been a SAHM so I am new to how childcare works. Would it be easier to find an in-home childcare??

What can I do next?

I've seen a drop in place near Southlake Town Center too... you didn't mention what part of town you live in.

My sister lives outside of Houston but she uses the drop in place by her house a lot. My niece loves it there and the workers there are great.

Well, if you are hoping for a center, they will make you pay for the full week, and then you are free to drop her off and pick her up whenever you want. Most in home providers will be the same way, as we need to make a set amount of money in order to make providing childcare work for us. I have done childcare for years, and so people who are "professional" (for lack of a better word" in home providers may not offer the flexibility you need. However, there will be some who can work with your schedule, or maybe even a college student with some flexiblility could work. How quickly you would know your schedule for the week would be most important, and if it changes from week to week, you may be stuck with paying to keep her spot, no matter when you drop her off. It could be a great way for a friend/mom that you know to make a little extra cash, so ask other SAHM that you know too. Good luck, it is a tough situation :( ~A.~

Drop in child care centers, like "PlayTime" in Keller & n. Ft. Worth, seem to be popping up around the area. I know there are some others now in S'Lake & Colleyville. Check around in Flower Mound. I bet there is something similar out there. Speaking specifically of Play Time in Keller, it is a really fantastic place w/ programs, games & great staff, good & inexpensive meal options, too- or you can drop off w/ a sack lunch.

Good Luck!

You can use Adventure Kids right there in Flower Mound in Parker Square. http://web.adventurekidsplaycare.com/about.html I use them when things come up, and my son does great there. Feel free to tell them J. Jurgens referred you. I think your daughter will love it. Even my husband says he wishes he could go and play there :)

J. - there are daycares that will allow drop in care, which basically means that you pay the registration fee, and then when you need care, you call them and see if they have room. This could be risky if you're calling the day of to see if there is room, but if you know your schedule a week or so in advance, it really shouldn't be any probelm to call up and tell them what days you need care.

There is usually both an hourly and a day rate, which would cap at about 3 or 4 hours - meaning they charge, say, $12 an hour for up to 4 hours, then it's just a flat $48 for the day or something.

I don't know what area of town you're looking for care, but if you PM me & let me know, I'll search our database for you and tell you which ones do drop-in care.
