Need a Good Discipline Book

My 4 year old son is in some crazy phase for the past year and it is getting worse. I think he is constantly testing me and it is driving me up the wall. I need a good discipline book (I already have Magic 123 and didn't really care for it) I am also looking for a book where I can learn more about development for his age to make sure that I am not expecting too much from him. I hope this stage will end soon, I thought it was supposed to get easier when they got older!!!!! :-)

Sounds like your going though a tough time. Dr. Sears has a book called "The Discipline Book" that you may find helpful. It talks a lot about development and expectations. You may want to check it out. Good luck!

Hi P.,
I really liked the book by Dr. Brazleton. I think it is called touchpoints or something like that. It addresses development as well as discipline. I found it to be quite helpful, and a balanced approach. I also like anything by Dr. James Dobson. He's got one called "Dare to Discipline." Hang in there. It doesn't always get easier, just different challenges at different ages, and even then, every kid is different. I have seven, and we've had a couple of very challenging 4 yr. olds! Good luck.

Just out of curiousity, what did you not like about 123 Magic? I'm also looking for similar books but can only do it from online since I live overseas, so any advice you have or get might help me too.

Also, since I only just found this online and have yet to read it, I can't quite recommend it, but maybe you would find it useful : What's Going on in There? by Lise Eliot. It's about development during the first 5 years.

Thanks and good luck.

I like "Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood" by Jim Fay & Charles Fay. It's written for use with kids 6 and under. I always recommend getting discipline books from the library to try out before you buy them and then don't like them. I also like Glenn Latham's "Positive Parenting" (although I'm wary of his approach to crying babies)
